Catching up with old friends

A few days ago it was my friend Matthew's 30th birthday. He had a party in Leeds and invited me and Rob. I've known Matt since I was 10, when we went to the same piano teacher, then we went to the same secondary school, but it wasn't until we accepted places at the same university and were then, quite coincidentally, put in next-door rooms in halls that we really got to know each other. He has kept in touch with a load of other people from school, so the 30th birthday party also doubled as a bit of a reunion, as I hadn't seen any of those friends for about 5 years (and I hadn't seen Matt for 4, although we speak on the phone and e-mail regularly). It was great to see Sue, Becky and Robert again after so long, and catch up with everything they're doing. I got their phone numbers and won't leave it so long next time... Sue asked Becky to go with her to the party and left her fiance Dave at home because, in her words, "He's a nerd; he likes computer games and Penny Arcade, he wouldn't enjoy himself; he'd have nothing to talk to anyone about." Until she met Rob, who is also a nerd who likes computer games and Penny Arcade... still, maybe next time. I also caught up with Simon and Lucy from university, and discussed Matt's Mum's legendary Boxing Day family parties with Matt's cousin Laura. I'm meeting Matt and another uni friend, Claire, for a meal after work in a month's time (the first day we're all free!), which will probably be the last time I see them both before moving. Thanks for a great evening, Matt!

Well, if everyone else is doing it...

Loads of people I know have blogs. My boyfriend Rob has one (although he hasn't posted for ages - over a year, in fact), and lots of my friends have one, particularly the US-based ones, including Keri and Jill - so why shouldn't I have a go? I'm not sure I have anything to talk about - Rob's is a techie/work-related blog, Keri focuses on her children and Jill talks about her travels - but I'm sure I'll think of something. If not, this might be the first and last post...

Actually, the next few months are going to be quite hectic as Rob and I are moving from Manchester to Southampton, so there might be some news there. In the meantime, I'll just catch you up with what's been going on so far...
